So last night we had 70mph winds and a few tornadoes touched down a mile or so from our house. I took the kids to the basement (in the pitch black dark) and we all sat in a circle, holding hands, and we prayed. It was very, very frightening but what was really neat - I kept it together and was strong for the kids, and they weren't so scared when they saw that I would save them from any danger. And when I saw that they placed 100% trust in me and my abilities, I lost my fear.

And that was an awesome feeling.

Jess, You did a good job with the kids and the storm, I think what they need most from us is a sense of having the ground under their feet. Moms are very good at providing that. Trust your instincts and you will usually do the best thing for your kids, I believe.

Once I was in a smallish plane with my son A.J.; he was about three or four years old. We were being buffeted about by winds and the turbulence was really pretty bad. People were throwing up and I found out later that even the pilot was sick to his stomach from it. A.J. just looked up at me in the middle of this awful flight and said, "Mommy, make it stop!"

He also used to believe that I controlled the weather! Of course now that he's a teenager, he knows better, but I still do what I can to provide the ground under his feet. Truly.

    South Florida in 1992 when
    Hurricane Andrew struck.
It was my ex,her 7 yr old
    daughter and myself.I can
recall that she was the one
    that was calming me down,lol.

Mike, my aunt, who's in the USAF, helped clean up after Andrew. That was awful. I was in highschool at the time.

It was very terrifying. Those sirens...ugh. (shudder) Glad that I (and YOU) came out of it untouched.

And Mikey, you rock MORE!! Trust me!! ;)
